Boycott PK Can’t Just Be A Mere Rhetoric

I don’t know who the script writer of PK is. Neither do I care much to know. But for the absurdities and absurdities alone, I wish I could meet that fine gentleman/woman in person to convey my heartfelt congratulations. Well, to congratulate Mr. Khan and Mr. Hirani as well. If I remember, I heard a famous filmmaker once narrating, how the movies generally are the reflections of the society. I tend to believe that. That is perhaps why, in this generation of crack pot Facebook lovers; we are more inclined to produce movies which make every sensible audience drop their jaws all over the floor. Once they manage to gather their scattered jaws, they then struggle to figure out the head and tail of the movie. I guess, the choice has changed and so as the movie makers. But I understand. In today’s time, a movie on Shirdi Saibaba may not even screen for one full day. To make a business out of movie making, the producers need to give the audience what they want; even if that means patronizing a porn star as the best actress of all time. I am absolutely fine with that, even though I aspire for some serious reforms in our movie industry but that is out of the scope of this post.

Movies with minimal or no plot at all is acceptable to some extent but when plots are designed to appear as vehemence towards Hindus and that too without any reason whatsoever, I tend to jump out of my seat and take the bull by the horns. Vishal Vardwaj did his bit of Hindu defaming in his movie Haider not long back. That time also, I personally congratulated Mr. Vardwaj for showcasing the irony of Kashmiri Pundits in particular and Hindus in general, through his celluloid brilliance. Now today, I have no option but to congratulate, both Amir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani for successfully insulting the Hindus via, what they otherwise think is a great work of art called ‘PK’, their latest Bollywood venture. If only time could stand as a perpetual judge then the left liberal frauds of this part of the world would have unending filed days in the times of this overt simplification of secularism. But do we see patrons from Hindu religion burning effigies, rioting on the streets or killing random individuals in protest? Perhaps, such symptoms of oozing love and peace, against any manifestation of one’s religion are reserved for the peace lovers of the peace loving religion. But that said; can we sit quite? No, I am not advocating violence. If not violence then what, you may wonder. At least we can make our stand clear and congratulate the greats like Mr. Khan and Mr. Hirani because praise should be bestowed in unequivocal terms, where it is due. So here we go.

In his defense, Amir Khan was once seen elaborating the thought process behind making the movie PK. The idea was to educate people about the rot in their respective religions, he added. Mr. Khan in fact was desperate to unearth the rotten potatoes in every religion, including Hinduism. I totally understand the good intent of Mr. Khan and his good buddy Mr. Hirani. But the movie is exactly opposite to what the duo promised. All that the movie did was to abjectly make fun of Hinduism in every audacious way possible. I for once braved the entire duration of the movie with an expectation that Mr. Khan would release the cat out of the bag any moment and talk about Islam and Christianity. But my wait prolonged till the point everyone started leaving the theater clapping and congratulating each other for able to watch a brilliant movie. To my utter disdain that watershed moment never arrived. The movie started with Hindu bashing and ended pretty much at that. Now from here the fun begins. Was that deliberate or the movie makers simply forget to realize that there are other religions than just Hinduism in this world? Since both Mr. Hirani and Mr. Khan have turned silent post the release, the onus is on us lesser mortals to find the real cause of such extravagance. Or maybe, ask some irrelevant questions?

First I want to ask Mr. Khan a very simple question – what are his thoughts about going to Mecca for Haj. If I remember, I had once seen him getting emotional while describing the beauty in making a trip to the gulf nation during the holy month of Ramzan. He was exuding with piousness while describing the atmosphere in Mecca during that period. Then, I wonder how the same Mr. Khan finds Hindus going to Amarnath or Mtara-Rani a waste of time? But that is what perhaps makes a perfectionist, you know? The perfectionist only finds comedy in others while blinds out at own self, irrespective of how imperfect the condition is. I can point by point map the procedures involved in a visit to Amarnath that with Mecca and can elaborate where the real rot lies but then, I am not a perfectionist. In fact such callousness in dealing with other’s sentiments is reserved for perfectionists like Mr. Khan and his too clever by half perfectionist friend Mr. Hirani. But I get the point. According to movie PK, Hindus are scoundrels and of lose moral from birth. While visiting a mosque requires epitome of holiness, only barefaced rascal Hindus visit temples. That is perhaps why Mr. Khan decided to tie his slippers on the door of a temple in fear of losing them to a Hindu thug. So next time your kids ask for the dictionary definitions of the word ‘scoundrel’ then you know where to go. Just make them stand in front of any temple and viola; they will see all the rascals of the world for real.

In another scene Mr. Khan finds lord Shiva in a public toilet. Can you imagine the outpour, had Mr. Khan thought of discovering Prophet in one of our Sulabh Sauchalayas? I bet, both Mr. Khan and his filmmaker friend would now be hiding in a bunker and praying for their respective perfectionist lives. I get that fear, so no complains. But before we move forward, I guess, I must ask – are Hindus such easy preys? May be. Anyway, forget it. But I must say Mr. Khan didn’t stop there. Lord Shiva was further seen being chased and running for his life, all the while adjusting his falling lower artier. What kind of movie making is this? Did Mr. Khan and Mr. Hirani care to know the relevance of lord Shiva in an average Hindu’s life before conceding such puke worthy movie sequence? Do they realize, people take out their swords with vengeance even for the mild criticism of the fourth wife and the 16th son of prophet? But here, I can’t ask, how dare he because he is a perfectionist but I can beg for answers – why he did it? Did he think the entire scene was hilarious? Maybe for him and million others but if you ask me, I was covering my own face in search of that dreaded answer – why… I mean why?

Mr. Khan as PK believes, feeding a cow, which is considered sacrosanct as per Hindu rituals, is a farce at large. Fair enough since the perfectionist seems to be unaware of the basic pillar of Sanatana Dharma – “Shive Gyane, Jibe Daya’. But then, this verse is the brain child of few rascals as per the above paragraph hence must be dismissed from its presence at once. That said; I presume Mr. Khan is wise enough to realize the correlation of symbolism with any religion. For example, the skull cap, which now has become the synonym with the Indian version of secularism or that stoning of the Satan at Mecca by the holy Muslims; all are symbolism to further solidify one’s belief in his/her religion. Even if whatever the scoundrels do, including feeding an animal should be criticized, can Mr. Khan deny that with such foolish acts of Hindus, at least someone’s stomach isn’t remaining empty? Now how such an act of feeding someone is stupidity, irrespective of which religion Mr. Khan believes in? I am sure, it will make an interesting reading if Mr. Khan is asked to explain the ‘Chaddar’ donations Muslims do in various Darghas. How about donating them to the thousands of homeless in our country instead, Mr. Khan? Believe me, you could have touched on this very point and I assure you, I would have clapped for your brilliance. But sad enough, Mr. Khan is a perfectionist, who sees evil among others while sees nothing…..

Mr. Khan also advocates how building temples is not an act of Dharma. I agree and that is what even written in Hindu scriptures. But only temples? While Mr. Khan as an alien is quite vocal about this topic, he surprisingly avoided raising this very point about Mosques and Churches. What about the Mosques that occupy half of the designated roads in Mumbai and elsewhere? What about the Churches that occupy half the real estate of a state like Kerala? Why I didn’t see Mr. Khan being equally critical here? If the pointer is towards Babri demolition then it should also stretch to the times when the Mosque was built after destroying an existing temple at the first place. If building Ram temple in Ayodhya was bad in 1992, then building a Mosque in 1528 after destroying a temple was an act of Adharma as well. But the perfectionist gets one directional and conveys to his spellbound audience that only building temples is an act of avidity. By the way, if numbers don’t lie as they seldom do, then the number of Mosques and Churches built in last couple of decades would easily surpass the number of Temples built during the same period, each on their own. But PK is an alien and he accidentally landed on a secular world called India. Hence his ignorance on facts has to be legendary. For this brilliant picturisation, both Mr. Khan and Mr. Hirani deserve a standing ovation.

In the movie, it came as an eye-opener when Mr. Khan educated all of us that going barefoot on pilgrimage is an utter act of foolishness. This in fact is such a foolishness that it lands itself beyond any logical comprehensions. Though the statement is debatable, the way Mr. Khan missed the symbolism part yet again must remain noteworthy. I agree; pain is the last thing any God aspires from his devotees in order to prove their obedience. But still, there are many kind of self-inflicted pain people take on their endeavor in worshiping. Like walking barefoot, shedding your own blood during Muharram or that merciless butchering of an innocent goat during Bakrid. All are symbols of worshipping. I never found Mr. Khan mocking other rituals which actually look disturbing but cherry picked and kept on harping on this barefoot pilgrimage. Bloodshed of your own and those of the innocent animals is fine but someone walking barefoot to the place of worship becomes foolishness. If you get the logic then please enlighten me or else Mr. Khan can advise me the psychiatrist’s name I must refer to cure my cocooned communal brain, failing which, I would wonder around in the thick land of religion to reason with the logics of Mr. Khan, aka PK.

I can go on but I won’t. If I do, I may never finish this post. But before I bid adieu, I am dying to go back to the days when ‘Satyameva Jayate’ was making all the headlines. It also makes me remember a post which I wrote then. I had hundreds of fans of Mr. Khan and their barrage of accusations back then to counter. And what were my specific crimes? Well, I asked if the crusader in Mr. Khan would wake up and do an episode on the plight of an average Muslim woman and the hypocrisies and apathies she faces in the name of religion. Big crime I guess, or else my Email Inbox wouldn’t have been full with dualities of various hues.

All said and done, I am dying to meet both Mr. Khan and Mr. Hirani personally and congratulate them for churning out such a marvel called PK. Hope this post reaches the perfectionist and would make perfect sense for him to come forward, and make this particular wish of mine fulfilled. Can I hope this much Mr. PK?

    1. so mr.khan and mr.hirani think it is stupid to feed a cow. Well, I would rather feed a cow than killing a cow to feed myself and I am proud of it and I dont care what stupid sickulars think.

Thanks for the warning, I will skip this movie and all movies by Amir Khan and Hirani however good they are.

I dont know why people are so much against temples. There is so much good temples are doing. For eg., how will kerala government pay the salaries without income from its temples.

    4. Excellent post, I completely agree with you. When the movie started I was very excited, when it started having fun with Hinduism, I too laughed, then it had some more fun and I thought hey, what about other faiths and then towards the end the movie went on an all out Hindu bashing with the message that Hindus fall victim to greedy gurus and they should consider getting Son-in-Laws from Pakistan. I also found out that I have been going to a 'Mandir' because I am afraid. Really opened my mind.

    6. Your language speaks of your upbringing. Can only pity your parents. And regarding criticizing other religions - just weigh the amount done against Hindus to that with others and I bet, you will hear exciting answers for the rest of your life.

    7. For whatever 'sick'ular message that has been conveyed thru PK, this is going to be rewarded with most number of national (if possible international) awards. Let's wait and see.

    8. time to look at censor board , are they really working ? How did they allow this crap? This is ignorance /darkness preaching to the sun. Such darkness should be "thrown away", government and home ministry should step in. Clear case of greediness for people involved in this movie.

    10. Excellent Consolidation of all the hypocrisies of the movie, but the the bigger question is as long as morons are there to pay and watch their own belief ridiculed, the pk's or hyder's will never stop.

    14. Kudos, a very well articulated post ... !!

Not to discourage, but wanna ask you a question - how many people laughed their a$$es off at the time of that Shiva sequence? Coz, Answer lies there.

Problem doesn't lie with these directors/ actors, but lies with our own community at large. We have become a little too used to criticize our own culture/ tradition, thanks to a wave of SICKularism that has engulfed this nation since independence. Frankly speaking, a counter wave of self-confidence/ pride in our own culture is the need of the hour. Just check, how many Hindus are supporting the PIL filed against Aamir Khan/ Hirani, to see what I'm stressing on !!

The day we start getting enraged, and condemn and ask for an explanation on the deprecating depiction of our Gods/Goddess would be the day these scoundrels in the movie industry would stop their churlish deeds.

Though, I appreciate your criticism for the lowly people who came out with this poor script, but ideally this criticism and anger should be directed at Hindus who take no time before coming for defense of these scoundrels with their stupid liberal/ tolerant logic.

Hiranis/ Aamir are out there to make 'money', and look at the kind of filthy money they have already made in a few days, and that makes them feel vindicated. It's us Hindus who need to be awakened for we have been kept in dark about our bright past, and the extreme evils of the invaders.

    17. Tell me which Hindu used slang to put his points here. I know you are a non Hindu so you are not bothered about the message PK has conveyed. I can question many Islamic rituals which are beyond any logic. My parents taught me that God is one but he revealed himself to different people in different ways, for example for my Muslim brothers he revealed himself as Allah for my Hindu brothers he revealed himself as Shiv (Param Pita Parmeshwar).

    18. Please don't blame the filmmakers. Our "educated" film patron is too dumb to realize when he/she is being heckled all in the name of freedom of expression. This not the first time for Mr. Hirani. The entire "manglik" scene in munnabhai 2 was his first attempt. The public lapped it up.

For slangs, I am giving you the example...

Hope you understand what does he mean.

No prizes to guess which religion he is talking about.

Of course I do not support any kind of abusive language used. I also support you in demanding censoring the scenes that hurt your sentiments, but why the writer is dragging Islam unnecessarily into this.

      ReplyDelete
    21. BTW, I never dragged Islam or for that matter any religion into this. I just did a coherent analysis. Did anywhere I criticized any ritual of any other religion?

      ReplyDelete
    22. Dear Friend, I have over sighted these remarks and these are very bad and unacceptable. The writer is not dragging Islam but he is questioning the double standards of our reel hero and film maker. Rational people like you and I know that there are some false practices prevalent in every religion. So if the film maker wanted to raise these things then he should have made fun of these practices prevalent in all the religions . My hero is Kabir (Gyan Margi) who exposed and made fun of false religious practices.

      ReplyDelete
    23. That's correct. But Raju Hirani exploited the sentiments of Hindus.

      ReplyDelete
    24. Very well written. Put together nicely. There have many absurdities in the movie which were unnecessary. But think of it objectively. It's difficult. Since religion is something very close to us, something personal that we take it heart when something is said about it. You took it too. Hence the post. There is a reson you wrote a post and not decapitate a few people for making a mockery of your religion. It's called time. Each religion is at a specific time today in its progress. The time it is in differentiates it from others. There are religions which are still in the medieval era which go barbaric at the slightest test, there are some which have curse words added with the names of their God or saviour and there are some which remain in the perfect, private space a religion holds in an individual's life. The thing is to know where you stand on this timeline. Soft targets, gullible lot, etc are ok if you want to stir masses on a populist front, but there is a subtle message here over this heinous and unholy scenes which should hold higher importance. And it is, that is why not each and every Hindu is out on the street rioting. This is a fact that cannot be unseen. Hinduism has progressed from a barbaric stage (except for a few), to a more accommodating mindset. Yes, there is a multiplicity of religions in India, but why Hinduism was allegedly targeted and shown need for reform? Because it can take it and make changes with the time without getting into the medieval mode. The place in the timeline has shifted out of that era. And it will move further even if some people want it to stay there.

Saying this, I do not mean to promote such activities which hurt the sentiments of some people. It's very shameful. But it's the message that counts, not the messenger.

    27. BC, one more point. The name PK doesnt make sense. In trailer, people are asking him 'Peekay hai kya' ? But that's wrong Hindi. No one asks like that. people ask 'peeke aaya hai kya ?' or 'pee rakha hai kya'? Minor stuff. But why would a movie that claims to expose the stupidity of people do something so stupid ? Surely they could find some other quaint name with a clever reason ? It's like they really wanted the character name PK, even if dialogues seem stupid. Weird decision for an experienced film maker. I have seen several comments in net that PK means pakistani. Now that the movie is accused of funding by pakistani company, the name PK seems fishy.
